Korean War Memorabilia
Under the command of General Douglas MacArthur, America rode unto the Korean battlefield. One of the first battles was dubbed "the American Task Force Smith" involving part of the U.S. Army's 24th Infantry Division based in Japan. On July 5, they fought for the first time at Osan
and were defeated immediately with heavy losses. The victorious North
Korean forces advanced southwards, and those Americans who survived the encounter were forced to retreat to Taejeon, which would also fall to the Northern forces. Major General William F. Dean, commander of the 24th division, was taken prisoner.Korean War Stuff - The "forgotten war" remembered.
